A happy hello from the groovebirds camp which has up and moved to upstate New York. It seemed to be the right move both musically and from an economic standpoint for my day job. I have never been a good enough musician to not have a day job so I have learned to juggle both. At times my musical art has suffered because of the all encompassing job I do other than music which is nursing...specifically Operating room nursing but I have done many types of nursing in my long career. I truly am like a dinosaur with my nursing scrubs and a OR hat on! 😝😝💕but truly, balancing two different worlds is always how I have lived my life so no big deal there! We have just released our 5th album with the Groovebirds and I am really glad to still be making music and doing it in whatever form we can. It has always been about the journey not the destination. Does life imitate art or does art imitate life? Perhaps a bit of both, having finally made it to 2023 basically unscathed so far. I am happy to report that we keep on keeping on! Is not this the only option? It seems so to me...after all, the world is so amazing in its beauty and diversity and though we as a species continue to abuse it and the creatures on it with no possible chance of being intelligent enough or cohesive enough to get our shit together, one can always find a small bit of wonder and art in it! May this year be kind to you and may you always find time to be creative in life...Tracy Coleman...bassist for the Groovebirds💜🧞♀️

give them the bird.....
Greetings and salutations,
Many a moon has passed since last I put my fingers to a keyboard....at least to script a quick blog, for some reason blogging eludes me the way a steady lead guitarist does...sometimes around...mostly not...the Groovebirds have finally released another album making a total of four to date with more to come...we have finally found a way to keep the recording costs more streamline which helps....We carry on...and is not that the goal? Music will find a way to be heard and the playing field changes often...This last Groovebirds effort is a hat tip to what has always been my favorite genre and that is the blues....I have often tried to play strictly as a blues bassist and something always derails my efforts, almost in a laughable manner...on this last effort I have submitted 3 tradition songs to the Groovebirds mix and tried to stay in the genre exclusively...the effort was 2 original compositions and 1 cover of a favorite song of mine done by many and that was "Driving Wheel" with of course, a woman's take on it....My favorite version is Etta James of her album "blues to the bone" which was released in 2004...An amazing collection of traditional blues tunes. I'm hoping this blog finds you well and prospering as much as one can in these strange and changing times...May the force be with us all and may we live with an attitude of gratitude for what we have on this globe...Until next time, take care....Tracy Coleman...Bassist...
2020💩what a year.....
Dear Birdfans,
Been a mighty crazy year, what with the Rona on the scene and the election craziness, the social unrest, not to mention the emotional, mental and physical distress many people have been under...Not only is the planet changing quickly, but in the next decade I believe we are going to see many changes to the fabric of our lives...Music in it's organic live form has taken a big hit and the music business in general has changed....I am hopeful everything will be ok and we will ride the storm of change out...I have lived long enough to see it come and go and still continue in some type of form....People that love and care for music in it's many forms will still be there and the art and beauty of creation comes from within your heart and radiates outward....stay the path though at times it may be dimly lit...this too shall change...at least that is what I hope will come to be....with respect and love...Tracy J Bassist for the Groovebirds🌞🧞♀️
To the North...
Hey birdfans...
Hope you get a chance to check out our latest effort “To the north” its an eclectic album that has a little more acoustic stuff on it. I really dug writing songs for this album and working with a bit more stripped down version of our tunes. It is always amazing to me how much great new music there is out there...its just more of a challenge to hear it with the changes in the music industry! Whatever the case, we soldier on and keep creating! May life be kind to you....Tracy J
The road less travelled.....
Hey Bird folk,
Its been a while since I have blogged and I wanted to share a few of the cool roads we have been down. For most of 2019 (since march, actually) we have been travelling the roads of America and working as grassroots bards and storysingers....We have played for a little, a little less, and sometimes a little more. The point being that in this ever changing world of music it seems to me the important thing is to play....To whomever might listen and if one person digs your tunes that is one person we are happy to meet. We have been from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine and everywhere in between! We have relocated to the New Mexico mountains so we could travel the distance of coasts easier and live cheaper. One must do what one must do to follow the muse! We have another album coming out soon, and that will make our 3rd.....this is a grassroots effort...and as all bards know. sometimes you are lucky to get fed.....we have played to everyone we can...we play music because we believe it makes the world a better place and sound is the universal language...I hope where ever you are and whatever you do you will take the time to listen to music....Go out and see live music, find new music to listen to, give the up and coming artists of all types a chance to warble their words and song to you...It is my hope that music will fly across the world and unite us more than any other medium...if it is played for reasons of the heart...I have always been a dreamer.....and it is my dream that people will wake up and realize that it is not about what you have or what you look like. Young or old, whatever color you are, we are all more the same than we are different on this boat called Earth...with love and respect....Tracy J
on the road again.....
Hey Birdfans, we hope your Memorial day weekend is going well! We are on tour throughout the USA as a duo at present and it has been great meeting new people and playing some cool little venues along the way! We've written alot of new music and when the tour ends in august we are going back in the studio to record and put out another cd. Please check out our schedule if you wish and come say hello! It has been really interesting as we travel along to see the beautiful sights and meet interesting people. We feel it is an honor to play music and a gift to share with others as we pursue our craft. In this day and age it is a work of love and hard labor on a grassroots level. We hope your summer goes well and you find time to go out and listen to some local music in your area. Support live music, it makes the heart sing and does wonders for your head. Keep the fires burning and remember....we are all much more the same than we are different on this little boat in the universe called EARTH. Love and Respect.....Tracy J
2018....more music please....
Happy 2018 and i hope this year finds you well, many a journey has been travelled since I last blogged.... haha well things happen, we have done at least 2 tours and recorded another album in 2017 since we spoke... and played as many gigs as we can.... we have been up and down and all around and still we search for sound.... I have always felt it is an honor and priviledge to play music and that will never change... even though it is a tougher market than it ever was for new music artists.... the corporations have taken over and life is moving ever faster than most people even want to realize still one must fight the good fight.... it is the time of the independant artist and one must work hard to survive in this crazy world... keep the faith comrades! Play music... pay it forward and never give up....kindness and compassion never go out of style.... until we meet again...?? Tracy J bassist
